The British Lions

Historically, the team used the name British Isles, however on their 1950 tour of New Zealand and Australia, they adopted their signature lion emblem on their jerseys and took the nickname of the British Lions.

However, since 2001, they have called themselves the British and Irish Lions, which coincidentally, they chose while on a tour of Australia, as before in 1950.
The name change was done to accommodate the fact that the Republic of Ireland was not part of the United Kingdom, but a lot of Irish players were on the team. However, while some criticized the move, most fans of the team simply call them The Lions.

The Lions themselves do not represent any nation, nor relate to any flag or national symbol and they have no national anthem. Instead, they use The Power of Four, which is a specially commissioned song for them as their championship song. This song has been used since 2005, but because many fans are not in support of it, the song may not be used in future tours.

The Lions first wore their red jerseys, white socks, blue socks and green stocking-tops in 1930. Since then, the uniform colors have become a part of The Lions mystique, with each color representing Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.

Typically, the British Lions are made up of the best players from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, who compete on tours. While they are considered to be one of the best teams of all time, they have never been allowed to compete in the Summer Olympics because they are not aligned with any specific nation.

The tours for the British Lions only happen on occasion, every few years, and as a result, this means the lions tickets are a hot commodity as the world waits to see one of the best teams of all time compete against some of the best teams the world has to offer.

While the British Lions do not win every match, they do offer an amazing display of athleticism and rugby skill through their roster of world-class players who help make sure that the fans who have bought rugby tickets will not be disappointed in the least.

Summary

The British Lions are one of the legendary clubs of rugby. Through over 100 years, they have proven themselves to be the best of the best at times, often dominating their opponents while they compete around the world. Made up of the best players in the British Isles, the team has become a favorite of those in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, with national pride, for a non-national team, running very high.

It is of little surprise then that Lions’ tickets are so hard to come by in those rugby mad nations.
