The Future of the British Lions

It may seem odd to look at the future of the British Lions, considering they have been in existence for over 120 years, but the future of the team is just as important as the past.

If the past has anything to say about it, the future of the British Lions will be just as popular, with rugby tickets for the games flying off the shelves quickly.

It is not surprising that most British and Irish rugby players consider playing for the British Lions to be a high honor, higher than that of playing for their national side, while those who play the Lions consider it to be a huge occasion.

That being said, there has been some discussion by the media over the future of the Lions following their poor showing in 2005, when they were outplayed by New Zealand, going 0-3. However, with 120 years of history behind them, it is unlikely they will disappear after a poor tour.

Most see the Lions as a great tradition in rugby and many players fight hard to preserve the traditions of the team, even the awarding of official caps for Lions’ matches.

The future of the British Lions will also be mired in controversy, as it always has been, due to the number of players that are represented in each union. In 2005, there was a perceived under-representation of Scots on the side, with only three out of the 44 players, as well as under-representation in Wales and Ireland.

The team’s future has also been criticized by rugby internet sites, including Planet-Rugby.com, which made fun of the team’s poor showing and future speculation with an April Fool’s prank in 2006. On that day, they ran a story that the British Lions would begin to include players from France and Italy.

Many of those who buy rugby tickets are hoping that in 2009, the British Lions can return to form and become a dominant team in international rugby competitions once again. The team has won five tours in South Africa since 1891, while losing six tours and drawing one. Gerald Davies will manage the team.

The future of the British Lions is an uncertain one at times, but the truth is that the team is a part a grand rugby tradition that is expected to continue for decades to come. While some will criticize the team for poor showings, most who stand in line to buy the tickets for British Lions games and feel a bit of pride with their rugby tickets, know that the good times will come again. Every team goes through a tough patch, and there is no where to go but up.
